VPN/Proxy Detected
Fix the VPN/proxy detected verification error by checking VPN apps, network-wide VPNs, and iCloud Private Relay on iPhone.
“VPN/proxy detected” means your connection was identified as a VPN or proxy and the server's verification settings do not allow it. Disable the VPN or proxy you are using, then reload the verification page and try again.
Disable your VPN or proxy
Disconnect in your VPN app, or turn off the proxy in your device or browser settings. Check browser VPN extensions too. Closing the VPN app may leave the connection active, so use its disconnect or off control.
Not using a VPN app?
Your network administrator may have configured a VPN or proxy on the router or network itself. This can put every device on that network behind a VPN automatically, even when you have not installed a VPN app.
Try one of these options:
Change your Wi-Fi network
Connect to a different Wi-Fi network that does not use a VPN or proxy, then retry verification.
Use your mobile cellular connection
Turn off Wi-Fi on your phone and use mobile data, then reopen the verification link. A VPN app or iCloud Private Relay may still be active on mobile data, so check those settings too.
Ask your network administrator
Ask the person who manages your network to remove or disable the network-level VPN or proxy, or provide a direct connection you can use for verification.
iPhone: iCloud Private Relay
If you use an iPhone with iCloud+, iCloud Private Relay may be active even if you have no separate VPN app. Private Relay hides your IP address while browsing in Safari, and its relay connection can trigger VPN/proxy detection.
To turn it off temporarily or until you enable it again:
Open Settings
Open the Settings app and tap your name (your Apple Account) at the top.
Open Private Relay
Tap iCloud, scroll to Private Relay under iCloud+, and tap it. Tap the Private Relay switch.
Choose how long to turn it off
- Turn Off Until Tomorrow: Disables Private Relay temporarily. It turns back on automatically within 24 hours.
- Turn Off Private Relay: Disables it until you turn it back on yourself.
Try verification again
Reload the verification page and retry. You can turn Private Relay back on afterward, though it may trigger the same error during a future verification.
See Apple's iCloud Private Relay guide for the official instructions, including settings for individual Wi-Fi and cellular networks.
Still seeing the error?
VPN/proxy detection can misclassify a connection. If you have disabled these features and tried another network, contact the Discord server's staff and share the exact error message so they can review the verification block.
