Common Errors

Verification Errors

Look up any verification error code, what it means, and how members and server owners can fix it.

When verification fails, the verify page shows “Error: <code>” and a message. Find the code below to see what it means and who can fix it. Some errors can only be fixed by the member, and others only by the server's owner or staff.

Members: RestoreCord support can't change another server's settings. If an error says to contact the server owner, reach out to that server's staff directly.

Error codes

10003 — Rate limited

Message: “Rate limited, please try again later”, “Discord is rate limiting requests. Please wait a few minutes and try again.” or “This bot seems to be rate limited, please try again”.

Discord is temporarily refusing requests from your account, your network or the bot. This limit comes from Discord and clears by itself; RestoreCord can't lift it.

If you're a member: stop clicking Verify, turn off any VPN, and wait about an hour before trying once more. See Rate Limited for the full steps.

If you own the server: there is nothing to change. During a large wave of joins, ask members to verify gradually.

10005 — Bot not set up properly

Message: “The bot doesn't seem to be properly setup, contact server owner”

Discord rejected the bot's login details. Either the client secret saved in RestoreCord is wrong or was reset, or the redirect URL isn't registered on the bot. This often happens right after a custom domain change.

If you're a member: contact the server's staff. Only they can fix this.

If you own the server:

  1. In the Discord Developer Portal, open your bot → OAuth2 → Reset Secret, then paste the new secret into the bot's Client Secret setting.

Go to Bots › Client Secret

  2. On the same page, under Redirects, make sure the bot's Redirect URL from the dashboard is listed exactly: https://restorecord.com/api/callback, or https://<your custom domain>/api/callback.

Go to Bots › Redirect URL

  3. Save, then run /setup in Discord to republish the verification message.

10013 — Discord account limitation

Message: “There seems to be a limitation on your Discord account preventing you from being added to servers…”

Discord won't let this account join servers. Usually the account's email or phone isn't verified, or Discord has restricted the account.

If you're a member:

  1. In Discord, verify your email address, and your phone number if asked.
  2. Check for any warnings or restrictions on your account.
  3. Try verifying again. If Discord has restricted your account, only Discord support can help.

If you own the server: there is nothing to change.

50013 — Bot role too low

Message: “The bot is missing permissions to add verified role, contact server owner”

This is almost always role order. Discord only lets a bot give roles that sit below its own highest role.

If you're a member: contact the server's staff.

If you own the server:

  1. In Discord, open Server Settings → Roles.
  2. Drag your bot’s role above the verified role, the unverified role, and any roles given by firewall rules, passwords or pulls.
  3. Make sure the bot’s role has Manage Roles.
  4. Have the member try again, then run /syncroles to fix members who verified while it was broken.

990031 — Blocked by firewall or blacklist

Message: “Access denied by firewall rules. Contact the server owner if you believe this is an error.”

A block rule matched you. This includes users added with /blacklist, users blocked automatically after a ban, imported bans, and IP, country or network provider rules.

If you're a member: contact the server's staff. RestoreCord can't remove another server's block.

If you own the server:

  1. Search for the member’s user ID in the firewall logs. The entry shows which rule matched.

    Go to Firewall › Logs

  2. Remove the rule under Firewall Rules, run /blacklist remove <user>, or give a temporary pass with /bypass grant or Grant Temporary Access in the logs.

    Go to Firewall › Rules

See Firewall for how rules work.

990032 / 990033 — Password required or wrong password

Message: 990032: “Password required for verification. Enter the verification password below.” 990033: “Invalid verification password. Please check the password and try again.” After several failures: “Too many failed attempts. Please try again in m:ss.”

The server requires a verification password. 990033 means the password is wrong, or it has expired, been disabled or reached its maximum number of uses.

If you're a member:

  1. Get the current password from the server’s staff.
  2. Type it exactly. Passwords are case-sensitive.
  3. If you’re locked out, wait for the timer to finish.

If you own the server: check the password under Passwords. Make sure it's enabled, not expired, and hasn't reached its maximum uses.

Go to Firewall › Passwords

990035 — Account too new

Message: “Your account is too new. You can try again in <time>”

The server only accepts Discord accounts older than a set number of days.

If you're a member: wait until the time shown, or ask the server's staff for a bypass.

If you own the server: lower Minimum Account Age, or grant a bypass with /bypass grant <user> <duration>.

Go to Security › Minimum Account Age

990043 — Mobile data blocked

Message: “Wireless connections not allowed”

The server blocks verification from mobile networks such as LTE, 4G and 5G.

If you're a member: switch to Wi-Fi or a home connection and try again.

If you own the server: turn off Block Wireless Connections, or give the member a bypass.

Go to Firewall › Block Wireless Connections

990044 — VPN or proxy detected

Message: “VPN/Proxy not allowed”

Your connection looks like a VPN, proxy or hosting network, and the server blocks those.

If you're a member: turn off your VPN or proxy (including browser extensions and iCloud Private Relay), or try a different network. See VPN/Proxy Detected for step-by-step help.

If you own the server: if a staff member needs a VPN, add an allow rule for their IP or network provider (ASN) under Firewall Rules, or grant a bypass. The protection itself is Block VPNs & Proxies.

Go to Firewall › Rules Go to Firewall › Block VPNs & Proxies

990045 — Alt account detected

Message: “Alt accounts not allowed”

Another account already verified in this server from the same network or device. Siblings, housemates, school or dorm Wi-Fi and public networks are common false positives.

If you're a member: you can't fix this yourself. Ask the server's staff for a bypass and explain that you share a network.

If you own the server:

  1. Grant a bypass with /bypass grant, right-click the user → RC - Bypass, or use Grant Temporary Access in the firewall logs.

    Go to Firewall › Logs

  2. If you see many false positives, turn off Block Alt Accounts and rely on the “Alt Account Warning” entries in your webhook logs instead.

Go to Firewall › Block Alt Accounts

990046 — Member of a blocked server

Message: “You are in a blocked server. Contact the server owner if you believe this is an error.”

The server has a firewall rule that blocks members of a certain other Discord server, and you are in it.

If you're a member: leave that server and try again, or contact the server's staff.

If you own the server: review the server membership rule under Firewall Rules.

Go to Firewall › Rules

990047 — Server invites paused

Message: “This server has invites disabled. Verification is temporarily unavailable until the server owner re-enables invites in Server Settings.”

Invites are paused on the Discord server, so Discord won't let the bot add anyone.

If you're a member: wait, and let the server's staff know.

If you own the server: in Discord, open Server Settings → Invites and turn invites back on. If Discord paused them because of a raid, they come back when the pause ends.

990048 — Email permission missing

Message: “This server requires access to your email address. Please verify again and keep the Email permission enabled on Discord's authorization screen.”

The server checks email addresses, and the email permission was unticked on Discord's authorization screen.

If you're a member: click Verify again and leave the email permission ticked.

If you own the server: there is nothing to change. See Member Privacy for what members share when they verify.

990049 — Authorization cancelled

Message: “You cancelled the Discord authorization. To verify, click Verify again and then click Authorize on Discord.”

You clicked Cancel on Discord's authorization screen.

If you're a member: click Verify again, then click Authorize.

If you own the server: there is nothing to change.

990401 — Invalid bot token or unauthorized

Message: “Failed to verify, contact the server owner to update the bot token”

The bot's token no longer works. It was reset in the Discord Developer Portal, or Discord disabled the bot.

If you're a member: contact the server's staff.

If you own the server:

  1. In the Developer Portal, open your bot → Bot → Reset Token.

  2. Paste the new token into the bot's Bot Token setting.

Go to Bots › Bot Token

  3. If Discord deleted or disabled the bot, see My bot got deleted or banned.

Message: “Unauthorized”

A special link, such as a bypass link, was opened with a different Discord account than the one it was made for, or the link is invalid.

If you're a member: log in to Discord with the correct account, or ask the server's staff for a new link.

990403 — Bot lacks access or 2FA requirement

Message: “The bot doesn't have the proper permissions to add verified role, contact server owner”

Discord refused the bot's action. Either the bot is missing permissions or can't access the server, or the server has Require 2FA for moderator actions turned on and the Discord account that owns the bot doesn't have 2FA.

If you're a member: contact the server's staff.

If you own the server:

  1. Make sure the bot is still in the server and its role has Manage Roles and Create Instant Invite. Administrator also works.
  2. If the dashboard shows the 2FA Required on Bot Owner Account warning, turn on 2FA on the Discord account that created the bot in the Developer Portal (not necessarily your own account), or turn off Require 2FA for moderator actions in Discord’s Server Settings → Safety Setup.
  3. Also check role order, as described under 50013.

990404 — Verified role deleted

Message: “Verified role not found, contact server owner”

The role set as the verified role no longer exists in Discord.

If you're a member: contact the server's staff.

If you own the server: pick a new role under Verified Role and save.

Go to General › Verified Role

990408 — Must join the server first

Message: “You must join the server before verifying. Please join the server first, then try again.”

This server doesn't add members automatically, and you aren't in it yet.

If you're a member: join the Discord server with an invite first, then verify.

If you own the server: to let people verify without joining first, turn on Add verified members and Join Servers For User.

Go to Extras › Add Verified Members Go to Security › Join Servers For User

40007 — Banned from the server

Message: “The user is banned from this guild.”

You are banned from this Discord server.

If you're a member: only the server's staff can unban you.

If you own the server: if it was a mistake, unban the member in Discord's Server Settings → Bans. Also check Auto-Blacklist on Ban and /blacklist list.

Go to Extras › Auto-Blacklist on Ban

30001 — Too many servers

Message: a Discord message saying you've reached the maximum number of servers.

You are already in Discord's maximum number of servers: 100, or 200 with Nitro.

If you're a member: leave at least one server, then try again.

If you own the server: there is nothing to change.
