General Settings
The basics: which Discord server this RestoreCord server is linked to, where the verification message lives and which roles members get.
The basics: your server's name and description, the Discord server it is linked to, where the verification message is posted and which roles members get when they verify. Changes are kept until you press Save, except where noted below.
RestoreCord Server Name
The name shown on your verify page. It also forms the readable verify link, /verify/<name>.
- Length: 3 to 99 characters.
- Characters: letters, digits, spaces, underscores (
_), hyphens (-) and periods (.). It must start with a letter. - Unique: no other RestoreCord server can already use the name. If it is taken, saving fails with "This server name is already in use."
Renaming the server changes the /verify/<name> link, so old links that use the previous name stop working. Links that use your Discord server ID, /verify/<server id>, keep working.
Description
A short description of your server, up to 191 characters. It is shown under the server name on the verify page and is used as the page description in link previews, for example when the verify link is pasted into Discord. Leave it empty to show no description.
This is not the same text as your Discovery Description, which is set separately.
Discord Server
The Discord server this RestoreCord server is linked to. Members who verify get their roles here, and this is the server members are pulled back into during a restore.
- The list only shows servers your bot has joined. If the bot is in none, a Bot Not in Server notice offers Invite Bot (adds the bot with the permissions it needs) and Manage Bot.
- Picking a different server resets the Verified Role to No Role, so choose the role again before saving.
- Only the server owner can change this. Sub-users see it as Read-only.
If the Discord server is already linked to another RestoreCord server, saving opens Server Already Registered. Verify Server Ownership asks you to log in with Discord; you must own the Discord server or have the Administrator permission in it. Once verified, the other RestoreCord server is unclaimed and the Discord server is linked to this one.
Unclaiming: pick No Discord Server (marked Unclaim) and press Save to remove the link. Unclaiming happens on its own: any other unsaved changes on the page are not saved, and you are taken back to your server list.
With no Discord server linked, members can still verify while Add verified members is off. They are saved as members but get no roles, because there is no server to give them in.
If the Discord server has Require 2FA for moderator actions on, the Discord account that owns the bot in the Developer Portal must have 2FA enabled, or the bot cannot assign roles. The dashboard shows a 2FA Required for Moderators warning when it detects this. Either enable 2FA on the bot owner's account or turn the Discord setting off.
Verification channel
The channel where the verification message is posted. Found inside Discord Server, in the Verification settings section.
- Only text and announcement channels are listed. Search by channel name to find one quickly.
- The section only appears once the selected Discord server is saved. After switching servers, save first, then pick the channel.
- If Discord's channel list cannot be loaded, or the server has no text or announcement channels, use Retry after fixing it in Discord.
Picking a channel and pressing Save posts the verification message there straight away. When the message is posted again, the previous copy is deleted. If your saved message has changed since it was last posted, the dashboard shows unsaved changes so you can save to post the new version.
The bot needs these permissions in the channel:
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| View Channel | To see the channel. |
| Manage Messages | To manage the posted message. |
| Manage Webhooks | The message is posted through a webhook named RestoreCord Verification. |
| Send Messages | Only when the message has a skip button. Such messages are posted by the bot itself instead of a webhook. |
Verification message
The message with the verify button that is posted in the verification channel. Found inside Discord Server, in the Verification settings section, below a live preview of the message.
- Edit message opens the message in Message Studio. When you are done, you come back to this tab.
- Reset to default appears only when a custom message is in use. It switches back to the default message right away, without the Save button. Your custom design is not deleted, so you can use it again later.
A custom verification message must contain a link button whose URL is exactly {verify_url}. Buttons can only be link buttons or the built-in verify and skip actions.
Saving a new message does not change the copy already in Discord. Press Save on the General tab to post the updated version.
On Verify Action
What happens to roles when a member verifies. The options are greyed out until a Discord Server is selected. Below the choice, the dashboard spells out what will happen with the roles you picked.
| Mode | Behaviour | Roles to pick |
|---|---|---|
| Give Role (default) | The Verified Role is given when the member verifies. | Verified Role |
| Remove Role | The Unverified Role is given when the member joins and taken away when they verify. | Unverified Role |
| Both | The Unverified Role is given on join. On verify, it is taken away and the Verified Role is given. | Both roles, which must be different |
Remove Role and Both cannot be saved without an Unverified Role. Switching back to Give Role clears the Unverified Role.
Verified Role
The role given after verifying, used in Give Role and Both modes. Found next to On Verify Action.
- Search by role name or ID. No Role (the default) gives no role on verify.
- Managed roles, such as bot and integration roles, are not listed.
- Roles at or above your bot's highest role are listed under Roles with Missing Permissions and cannot be picked. Why? explains how to fix it: in Discord, open Server Settings → Roles and drag your bot's role above the role you want. Pressing Done refreshes the list.
- In Both mode, the role chosen as the Unverified Role is not offered here.
- Only the server owner can change this. Sub-users see it as Read-only.
Unverified Role
The role given when a member joins and removed when they verify, used in Remove Role and Both modes. Found next to On Verify Action, and only shown in those two modes.
- It is required in both modes and has no No Role option.
- It follows the same rules as the Verified Role: managed roles are hidden, and the role must sit below your bot's role.
- In Both mode,
@everyoneand the role chosen as the Verified Role are not offered.
